Peer Review Policy for Imprint Academic's In-House Journals

Defintion of In-House Journal

Imprint Academic considers the following journals as "in-house journals": Journal of Consciousness Studies (JCS), History of Political Thought (HPT), and Journal of Sortition (JoS).

For the peer review policy of Cybernetics & Human Knowing, Mind and Matter, and Collingwood and British Idealism Studies please refer to the websites of the respective journals.

Peer Review Policy

All submissions undergo an initial desk assessment with an editor who decides whether or not the article is suitable for peer review. Opinion pieces and (book) reviews are typically not peer-reviewed unless they feature original research by the author. Before the desk assessment, submissions may be screened for formal and technical requirements of the journal by an editorial assistant. If a journal does not have an editorial assistant, this task is also completed by the editor.

Submissions that have passed the desk assessment stage are assigned to at least two subject experts who may be part of the editorial advisory board for double-blind peer review. Reviewers are asked to assess a submission for fit, content, structure, style, and impact and provide formative feedback along with their recommendation regarding publication within 5-6 weeks (depending on the journal) of receiving the submission. (This timeframe can, however, vary based on reviewer availability.) Any conflict of interest on part of the reviewer must be declared upon receipt of the submission at the latest. Peer review conflicts of interest are reviewed on a case by case basis at the discretion of the editor.

Based on the referee reports, the editor will make a decision for rejections, revise and resubmit (R&R), or (conditional) acceptance. The author will receive the referee reports alongside the publication decision and any additional comments the editor would like to share.

Members of the editorial (advisory) board are permitted to submit their own papers to the journal. Any editor-authored paper will be assigned to another editor for all editorial tasks, including peer review, and undergo the same process as a regular submission.
