    EDITORIAL

With volume 22 Polis will appear in two separate issues (spring and fall 2005). This change gives us the opportunity to restate in brief our editorial policy. Polis is a refereed journal and welcomes contributions from all fields of study related to ancient Greek thought, history and literature. Our aim is to draw together, and encourage, collaboration between those interested in Greek political thought in the broader sense, whatever their perspective or methodology.

Another development is the appointment of David Mirhady as Assistant Editor. David, a Canadian, finished his PhD in 1992 at Rutgers ( New Jersey , USA ) under the supervision of William Fortenbaugh, writing a dissertation on the political and legal writings of Theophrastus. After holding a number of other positions at Canadian universities, he joined Simon Fraser University in

Vancouver in 2000. He has published several articles on Athenian law and rhetoric, including ‘Torture and Rhetoric in Athens ’ (JHS 1996), and a new edition of the peripatetic Dicaearchus of Messana (2001). His current research centres on the influence of democratic ideology on the judges of Athens courts. Besides helping to edit Polis, he is co-editor, with Ilias Arnaotoglou, of ‘Nomoi’, an on-line bibliography for ancient Greek law: www.sfu.ca/nomoi

Professor Malcolm Schofield has also kindly agreed to serve on the Board.
