CONTENTS OF POLIS, VOL. 20 (2003)
Editorial
With the present volume Polis completes a full existence of twenty volumes. Since 1977, when the first volume appeared, Polis has published one hundered articles, fifty extensive review essays, and one hundred and thirty book reviewes. It has given a forum for discussion, not only to well-known members of the acaemia worlwide, but it has also welcomed contributions from younger scholars, whether historians, political scientists, philosophers or classicists. Today, Polis is proud to be the only journal solely devoted to the history of ancient Greek political thought.

An Index to all twenty volumes is included with this volume, as a separate supplement. I wish to acknolwedge the indispensable work of Peter Nicholson in compiling the Index. It was his own idea and creation.

What Polis has achieved in the past years is largely due to Peter Nicholson's editorship (1986-2002). With his dedication and paradigmatic meticulousness he maraged to enrol Polis amongst the group of high-ranking, refereed academic journals. From this volume on he joins the Editorial Board.
