Laminating
Digitally-printed covers are liable to marking during handling so lamination should be considered for high-value items. Gloss lamination is recommended, but two forms of matt are also available, subject to certain caveats.
Digital (nylon) gloss - This is the most economical option and the specialist nylon film that we use lies completely flat.
Digital (nylon) silk - This lies equally flat but has a silky sheen. The film is slightly opaque and can add a milky hue when darker colours are used.
OPP matt - This film is completely matt and translucent but, as OPP provides an impervious membrane, is prone to curl when exposed to extreme atmospheric humidity variations. This is an inherent problem with digitally-printed covers, owing to the heat involved in the printing process. The covers are flat when they leave our premises but their ongoing stability will depend on the humidity conditions of your storage and display location.
