Transubstantiation

silent pulse
hidden behind time and mind
sends life surging
passionately
along its dangerous pathway
to perfection
drives me closer and closer
to the edge
until finally I am all gone
all there is
breath and death
the seen and the unseen
the ancient of days and the new dawn
unite
in me
incandescence
matter’s secret
the body’s truth
revealed

--Elaine Smith
